The Importance of an Organized Closet

I talk a lot about buying new clothes, but coming from a student who lives in NYC, a place where space is very limited, I guess it's time I talk about closets, and offer some tips as to how to organize yours.

If I could, I would have a Kardashian closet that quite honestly resembles a store with beautiful crystal chandeliers and spotless white marble walls and countertops.

Unfortunately, this isn't the case at all. I have a ton of clothes and am often buying new things, so I wanted to share some ways to organize your tiny closet to make your clothing more appealing to you.

FIRST TIP: Do a giant clean out. Get rid of anything you no longer like/ wear. Don't forget to donate your clothes instead of throwing them out!

SECOND TIP: Put things you wear the most upfront. Also put your new items in the front so that you don't forget about them. I can't tell you how many times I clean out my closet and think "Ohhhh! That's where I put that new Zara shirt!" By that time, there's a possibility I don't love it anymore and essentially wasted money buying it in the first place.

THIRD TIP: When organizing, use cascading hangers! They saved my life a couple years ago. Here is a picture of them:

FOUTH TIP: Figure out which organizational method works for you. Do you like to color coordinate, or coordinate by item type? For me, I put similar items together. I have all of my pants in one section, all my blouses in another, all my t-shirts in another, etc. Everyone has a different preference; coordinating all shirts together by color may work for you.

Overall, having an organized, beautiful closet will make you excited to get up and get dressed every morning. It will also help you save time because you won't have to run around looking for random misplaced items. Get cleaning/ organizing and let me know how it goes.
